Since early April, Shakhtar’s Shelter Centre at the Arena Lviv has been accommodating IDPs from different regions of Ukraine.

During the first 10 days of operation of Shakhtar’s Shelter Centre at the Arena Lviv, they received over 500 IDPs, with more than a half of them being children aged from six months to 15 years old.

Since its opening, the centre has been operating as a temporary accommodation for the migrants who needed shelter after their evacuation from the warfare area. There, people could rest, put their documents in order or wait for their relatives, and then continue their journey to the places of long-term residence in Ukraine and Europe that are offered by numerous volunteer organizations.

Presently, due to the large number of refugees arriving in Lviv, Shakhtar’s Shelter Centre has been re-equipped for longer stays, with places being provided primarily to large families and mothers with little kids. Since the centre switched to long stays, some 150 people stay there daily on average.

In total, Shakhtar’s Shelter Centre at the Arena Lviv can accommodate about 230 adults with children. Premises for sleeping and rest have been equipped in the spacious VIP areas of the stadium, where they try to create all the necessary living conditions for IDPs. The centre provides comfortable and safe conditions for children. There is a children’s room with toys, art aids, and cartoons. Volunteer teachers and psychologists conduct various activities, games and competitions with the children.

The operation of Shakhtar’s Shelter Centre at the Arena Lviv is also actively supported by the club’s partners – companies of the SCM group that are engaged in supply of materials: the delivery of humanitarian cargos and emergency supplies.

It should be noted that about UAH 1.4 billion has already been donated by SCM businesses, the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation and the Shakhtar football club to help Ukraine and Ukrainians just during the first 40 days of the war.
