Like many Ukrainian children, Russian bombs and shells have made Ilya Kostushevich, 6, an orphan. His mother died when Mariupol was attacked continuously for three months and no one knows where his father is. All his other family members have been killed.

Ilya’s grandparents took him to some volunteers along with his documents but the grandparents were also killed. The boy hid for three weeks from the bombing and then went to Berdyansk where he was transferred to social services in Dnipro. Maria and her husband, refugees from the Donetsk region who now live in Kyiv, decided to adopt Ilya. The legal process is ongoing. Ilya suffers from psychological trauma and short-term memory impairment.

Shakthar Football Club is raising money for Shakthar Social Foundation’s activities to help children such as Ilya as well to fund emergency shelter for Ukrainian refugees fleeing Russian bombs and shells.

Shift360 and Shakthar Social Foundation signed an MoU to channel the funds to support the emergency shelters. A number of football players from FC Shakthar Donetsk as well as Brazilian football player J. Moraes have started to donate to Shift360 in support of this initiative.
